17.10.2005 Kike Turmix R.I.P
Our friend and Spanish promotor through many years Kike Turmix died of cancer last night. It’s a really sad story and it’s hard to find the right words. First of all condolences to Marga and the Vitoria family from Raldo, Biff, Danny, Stu and myself.

For everyone who doesn’t know, Kike was the guy who brought all the good rockbands down to Spain before noone else had heard about them. We owe him much respect for making sure Gluecifer has had a good life on the road in Spain since 1998.

He was a tough one to deal with, and a lot of people couldn’t get along with him because of his ways. Myself and the rest of Gluecifer were fortunate enough to get to know the guy, see his positive sides, and usually just laugh at the negative ones.

Kike Turmix or Enrique Vitoria that was his real name, was the guy everyone knew and had a certain opinion about. He was a character, a guy you would never forget if you had met him or seen him just once.

No matter how weird and untraditional he was in his ways of doing business and connect with other people, he was a man with a big heart. A big heart that loved rock’n’roll more than anything in the whole world. Being so passionate, devoted, dedicated, even obsessed with rock, I’ve never seen anything like it.

I spoke to Kike on the phone the day of our farewell show in Madrid a couple of weeks ago, he was in the hospital, he sounded weak and said he couldn’t make it to the show. I had no idea it was that serious, but I also knew Kike has had some rough times during the past years. At the end of our little conversation he managed to squeeze in a little demand, no matter how stoned he was from the painkillers “Tell Marga (his wife) to get some merchandise, for me, none of that fucking small sized Scandinavian trendy shit, a nice big t-shirt and a hood, and make sure you play a great show, for me.”

For me, that was the most classic Kike Turmix quote ever. He would say that about everything. Instead of asking “can I have some of that please”, he would rather point at the object he wanted, and say for me!

Well Kike, this is for you. No matter where you are we hope you’ve found peace. You will be missed, and the memories about you will always be in our hearts. Thanks for all the good times.
